Mark DiMaggio wrote a sympathy message

“.My father was always there for me growing up. I learned all the lessons of life with this kind, loving father. Took me to work as a young boy, taught me to play ball, taught me to always do the right thing in life. I would see my father come into my room every morning before school to wake me with a warm glass of mike, and the red of the egg inside. Then he would ride the M train to Myrtle, and off to Western Union. He would walk fast, down to Hudson St. Used to tell me how strong the wind would come off the river. Then back home at night, come in the door. Everything went into a special dresser draw, everything went in neat , in its place ready for the next day. My dad always carried his wallet on his hip pocket, and a white handkerchief in the other. Got payed every Wednesday. Saw the check to to my Mom,every Wenesday. Took us to the Radio City shows every year. Saw them all Charlie Brown,1776, all the sites in the city. Took us to the Museums, Central park, St Pat's, The Statue of Liberty. Two special years , we went to Italy. 1969. And 1971. We watched the first men walk the moon, in the summer of 69 from Italy. Live on a black and white TV. He taught me how to drive, his 72 Monti Carlo. Trusted me to take my beautiful wife Nancy on our first date to Pizza City with that Monti. And my dad was there when I broke my arm, when I took my physical for the Greatest job FDNY. And my dad was there to see me score a 95 on that day. My dad saw me achive my goal to be a Firefighter. Dad saw my children grow up. Ball games with my son Mark, Parties with my daughter Elisa. Most of all I was a lucky dad to see my father know my grand daughter's. Giuliania Rampulla,Gia DiMaggio, and Marisa Rampulla. Funny the things you remember in life, a wallet, a drawer, a good piece of advice. But I was a lucky Son to have you as my Dad. I Love You John L DiMaggio. Your Son Mark.”
