He was predeceased by: his parents, George McElroy and Mary McElroy (Bresnahan); his brothers, George, William and Thomas; and his wife Katherine Dittmar.
He is survived by: his sons, Sean (Edith) of Newport, RI, Robert Jr. (Laura) of Knoxville, TN, Dennis (Deanne) of Allen, George of Buffalo, NY and Michael (Lenore Van Demark) of Rhinebeck, NY; his grandchildren, Robert, Heather, Ryan, Meaghan and Bailey; and his great grandchild Charlotte. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dapson Chestney Funeral Home (51 W Market St, Rhinebeck, NY 12572). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the same location. A committal service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 12:25 PM at the Rhinebeck Cemetery (3 Mill Rd, Rhinebeck, NY 12572).
