He was predeceased by: his parent William H. Shields; his former wife Sandra R. Groulx Shields; his brothers, George, Howard, Warren, Stanley, Ralph and Richard; and his stepson Philip "Chuck" Baxter.
He is survived by: his parent Beatrice Opal Shields (Gray); his pets, Rummy and Deuse; his children, Virginia Shields (Allison) and Jeanine Renee (Louis Hayes) of Paonia, CO; his stepchildren, Douglas Shields (Wendy) of California, Donald Shields (Laura), Patrick Shields (Didi), Monty Shields (Gina) of Randolph, Chet Shields (Mary) and Lori Leigh D'Angelo (Tom) of Jamestown; and his grandchild Michael Baxter (Karen) of Jamestown. He is also survived by 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
