JK", of Mount Kisco, NY passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born in the Bronx on January 24, 1933, the son of John R . Kernan Sr. and Agnes Serry Kernan . John served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for Preston Freight in Elmsford, NY, retiring in 1995. John , whose nickname was Hawk, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He holds the title of 2015 Hunter of the Year for Constant Quest Outfitters. Golfing was a favorite pastime. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, the Giants, the Rangers and the Knicks. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Mount Kisco, his son, John R . Kernan III and his wife Carolyn of Mahopac, his daughter, Kim Kernan Wolfe of Wappingers Falls, NY, his sister, Barbara Ciardullo and her husband Carmine of Oxford, CT and his 5 grandchildren, John , Kevin, Adam, Shane and Ann Marie. His sister, Geraldine Kopp, died earlier. Visiting will be held on Thursday, March 15 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 8 pm during the visitation period. Graveside committal services will be held on Friday, March 16 at 11 am at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 101 Mill St., Putnam Valley, NY. #JK #KingBarracuda #BigHawk #UncleJohn #PopPop In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of John may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
