Carl A Scarfuto Obituary
Carl A. Scarfuto, 76, of Port Washington, Long Island, passed away on December 06, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital after a period of declining health.
Carl was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 15, 1947 to the late ElizabethTroise and Anthony Scarfuto. He attended Holy Family Grammar School and Tilden High School. After high school, he built his own radio station in the basement of his house and later became a ham radio enthusiast.
His interest in all things technical led him to study at Voorhees Technical Institute. He then went on to work at radio station WNYC. Shortly thereafter he landed his dream job as a maintenance technician at WNEW-TV later known as WNYW-TV Fox 5 which combined his love of electronics with the excitement of live television. He reluctantly retired in 2010 after experiencing a decline in health.
Towards the end of his life, he spent his spare time feeding stray cats and building outdoor shelters for them.
Carl is survived by his sister Elaine and her husband Chris, nieces, nephews, cousins and by the many friends and work colleagues who meant so much to him throughout his life.
Visitation is Tuesday, December 10, 2024 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Fairchild Sons Inc. 1570 Northern Boulevard, Manhasset, NY 11030.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Shore Animal League in Port Washington.
