It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine Szmidt of Pine Island, New York, born in Goshen, New York, who passed away on January 14, 2024, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Nathaniel Jackson Jr. and Tressie Mann Jackson; and her husband Edward J. Szmidt. She is survived by: her children, James Szmidt (Jennifer) of Wurtsboro and Debbie Sue Leon of Wurtsboro; her siblings, Joan Decker of Middletown, Carol Spielberger of Middletown and Gene Jackson of Middletown; and her sister-in-law Carol Ann Chaney of Ocala, FL. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
