He was predeceased by: his parents, George Hakes and Anna Hakes (DuVall); his wife Phyllis Hakes (Smith); his siblings, William Hakes, George Hakes III, Raymond Hakes, Walter Hakes and Kathleen Sprague; his son Daniel Hakes; and his grandchildren, Anthony Hakes, Brian Hakes and Candy Hakes.
He is survived by: his siblings, Gordon Hakes, Alton Hakes, Larry Hakes, Marie Licciardello and Barbara Coulough; his children, Bernard Hakes (Dorthy) of Fayetteville, NC, Mike Hakes of Elmira, NY, Keith Hakes of Corning, NY, Kevin Hakes (Karla) of Lawrenceville, PA and Lindsay (Danelle) of Indianapolis, IN; and his grandchildren, Johnathan Hakes, Jessica Hakes, Elizabeth Payne, Krista Hakes, Alexis Hakes, Kyla Hakes, Tony Hakes, Elizabeth Horton, Tyrus Hamblin and Taylor Hamblin. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
