He was predeceased by: his parents, Esperanza Garcia and Ventura Sanchez; and his wife Maria Irene Orengo. He is also survived by his 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 7 siblings, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jose's memory to The Wounded Warrior Project.
