She was predeceased by: her parents, Eldorus Demout Slater and Harriet Stotlar; her husband Emilio "Pete" Viola; and her granddaughter Nicole Tomlins. She is survived by: her children, Emilio "Pete" Viola of Poughkeepsie, Vincent Joseph Viola of Manhattan, Marie Viola of Poughkeepsie and Denise Strang of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, David, Brian, Katie, Rachel, Mary, Richard, Joseph and Nicholas; and her brother Leroy Slater. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in Gwendolyn's memory to Hudson Valley Hospice.
