Maureen Dowd Obituary
Maureen Fitzsimmons Dowd, a longtime resident of Rockland County, passed away after a battle with cancer on September 28th, 2023. The daughter of Thomas and Madeline Fitsimmons, Maureen, affectionately known as Mo, grew up in the Bronx, NY. She attended St. Barnabas High School, Marymount Manhattan, and Iona College and became a teacher where she spent the bulk of her career as a beloved history teacher at Albertus Magnus High School for 20 years.
Maureen was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, John, and her granddaughter, Matilda. She is survived by her sons, John (Kerri), Kevin (Terri), and Brendan (Jacqueline), her grandchildren John, Liam, Colin, Margaret, and Gerard as well as her brothers, Robert (Judy) and Thomas Fitzsimmons, and her sisters, Patricia Gatti and Carol Slaughter (Wallace).
Visiting will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 from 3 pm-5 pm and 7 pm-9 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. 100 Franklin Ave. Pearl River, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. Anthony R.C. Church Nanuet, NY. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen’s name to Calvary Hospital Bronx Campus.
