He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lillian Matthews and Randolph Matthews; his sister Barbara Mickens; his wife Gwendolyn Matthews; his children, Derek Matthews, Kim Matthews, Keenan Matthews and Mia Matthews; his grandchildren, Derek, Aaron, William, Morgan, Alivia and Danielle; his great grandchildren, Marlena, Cameron, Jahaiden, Derek Jr. and Semai; his niece Tracey Preston; and his nephew Gary Mickens. He was also cherished by other relatives and friends.
