He was predeceased by: his parents, Violet Johnson Pesinkowski and Daniel Thomas Griffin; his grandparents, Victoria, Eric Johnson of Väddö, Amelia Remsen Smith and Charles H. Griffin of Oyster Bay; and his great-grandparents, Annie Elizabeth DeMott and Daniel Dikeman Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Doris Eleanor Shearer; his children, Thomas Edwin Jr. (Susan Ann McCann), Pamela Eve (Daniel John Hansen) and Neil Lawrence (Elizabeth Katharine Krayer); his grandchildren, Daniel John, Eric Quentin, Paul Thomas, Anna Dorothea and Katharina Eleanor; his siblings-in-law, Lucille (Gary Griffin), Norma (Paul Kessler) and Thomas Shearer; his nieces, Lisé (Karl Cooper), Victoria (Andrew Lewis), Heather (David Falk), Donna (David Stewart) and Sarah Kessler; his nephew Glenn Thomas Griffin (Janice Lambiasi); and his cousins, Patricia Ann Milligan Russell, Helen L Davis Quigley, Karen Erica Johnson, Valerie Ann Johnson, Alida Madeleine (late Melvin C. Lyons) and Eric Francis Johnson (Yuwen Chen). He is also survived by many grandnieces, nephews.
