He was predeceased by: his parents, LeRoy Smith and Izetta Smith (Edgett); and his siblings, Marge Devoe, Jane Smith, Ruth Shepard, Carol Seeley, Walter and Francis Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Doris C. Thaler; his children, Richard Smith (Brittney Thrower) and Sherrie Toukatly (Scott); his granddaughters, Angela O'Connell (Ryan), Tara Cappelli (Dave) and Halie Wiatr (Edmund); and his great grandchildren, Aiden, Finn O'Connell, Jack, Elyce Cappelli, Marlo and Mallory Wiatr. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Remembrances in Howard's name may be made to the Oriskany Fire Dept., Parkhurst American Legion or the American Cancer Society.
