He was predeceased by: his wife Helen Gatta (Bamrick); and his sisters, Dolores Lewis (late Frank), Patricia Ehms (late Donald), Maureen Schanbacher (late William), Elizabeth Clifford (Francis) and Mary Ellen Brooks (late David).
He is survived by: his children, Ann Marie Sullivan (James), Thomas F. Gatta, Joseph J. (Sharon) and James F. Gatta Jr. (Margaret); his grandchildren, Brian (Katherine), Kevin (Margaret), Hayley Sullivan, Amanda, Jenna, Anna Gatta, Erin and Caitlin Gatta; his great grandchildren, Olivia, Emily, James and Patrick; and his sister Nancy McGuire (late Bryan). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Mr. Gatta was a member of American Legion Post #735.
