He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Beulah Barnett Hickein and Fred Walter Hickein; his mother-in-law Eleanor Brown (Ellie); his sons, Kelvin Hickein and Brent Hickein (Pamela); his grandchildren, William, Frederick, George and Mary; his son Mark Hickein (Maria); his grandchildren, Gonzalo, Natalie, Katrina, Maria, John Mark, Joseph and John-Paul; his daughter Cheryl Berwin (George); his grandsons, Anthony and Andre; his nieces and nephews, Dorcas Ross (Tom), Susan Miller, Mary Hartman, Caroline Wenck, Dawn Davis (Tom), David VanAlstine (Lois), Robert VanAlstine and Ruth VanAlstine; his sisters, Katherine VanAlstine and Elnora Miller; and his daughter-in-law Monica.

Ann Birdsall wrote a sympathy message

“Fred started me on a path to an insurance career in 1964 when he took a chance and hired me. At that time, I was recently graduated from high school. I only worked for Fred just under 3 years but it was one of the best years of my life. I learned so much from him and I gained confidence I didn't know I had. I also helped Fred in organizing the Safety Patrol Trip to Washington D.C, My Condolences go out to his family at this difficult time Fred lived his life honorably and will be surely missed..”
