He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Whitman and Laura Pierce Whitman; and his wife Barbara Derwick. He is survived by: his daughter Elizabeth Mitchell of Litchfield; his grandson Nathan Pierce Whitman-Smith; and his stepchildren, Paula Bardenett (Jim) of Olean, Pamela Marceau (Georges) of Cato and Scott Derwick (Paula) of Olean.
