John Henry Luhrs Obituary
John Henry Luhrs, 81, originally of Queens, N.Y., died peacefully on July 4.
He is survived by his sister Bertha and her husband Pat, his daughter Kendra, his son Kelly and daughter-in-law Theresa, his granddaughter Jennifer, his grandson John, his granddaughter Madison, his grandson Riley, his granddaughter Kacy and her husband Ryan, his partner Georgia and her sons Billy, Steven and Larry.
An automotive mechanic by trade, Henry was a proud entrepreneur who owned and operated Grand Prix Collison and Towing for 50 years. But his crowning achievement was his role as husband to his beloved Arleen. It was Henry’s brother Harvey and then-fiancée Sandy who introduced Henry to Sandy’s best friend — and it was love at first sight.
Henry and Arleen tied the knot on Nov. 11, 1964. They spent 56 magical years together.
Henry lived his life to the fullest. His love of driving translated into an affection for travel, including yearly trips to Sturgis, S.D., and Daytona Beach, Fla., and countless family cruises. Henry also loved to ski, and shared that hobby with his children. Together, Henry, Kendra and Kelly built their home away from home — a cozy cabin in the heart of the Poconos where three generations of Luhrs made memories that would last a lifetime.
He is predeceased by his wife Arleen, his mother Georgine, his stepfather Patrick, his brother Harvey and his sister-in-law Laurie.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 10 (from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM) and Tuesday, July 11 (from 3-7 PM) at the Clair S. Bartholomew & Son Inc. Funeral Home (302 Bedford Ave., Bellmore, N.Y. 11710).
A mass of Christian burial will follow on Wednesday, July 12 (at 10 AM) at the St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church (2320 Bedford Ave, Bellmore, N.Y. 11710), preceding a burial (at 11:45 AM) at the Greenfield Cemetery (650 Nassau Rd., Uniondale, N.Y. 11553).
