Paul Garvey Obituary
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Liam Garvey on
August 31st, 2019 at the age of 40.
Paul was born on July 17th, 1979 in Nyack, NY., to his beloved parents, Kevin & Geraldine Garvey.
Being the youngest of six children, Paul was absolutely doted on. His mother attributes his kind spirit to the immeasurable amount of love that he received from his brothers and sisters growing up. Within his family, Paul always served as an unbiased, non-judgmental voice of reason. In addition to his loving parents, Paul is survived by his sisters: Sheila Garvey and her husband Kevin Fitzpatrick of Upper Nyack, and Tara Garvey and her husband Kevin Lapoff of Lake Worth, Florida. His brothers: Kevin Garvey and his wife Melanie Garvey of Blauvelt, Lawrence Garvey of New City, Gerard Garvey and his husband Jim Parent of Rochester, and his sister-in-law, Kerry Garvey, of West Nyack.
In the eyes of his nieces and nephews, Uncle Paul was the epitome of cool. Laid-back and fun loving, he served as their role model, confidant, and friend. They will miss his jokes, his candor, and his unmatched storytelling abilities. He will be forever loved and eternally missed by Katherine Abrams and her husband Jonathan Abrams, Brendan Fitzpatrick, Maura Lapoff and her husband Ahmad Al Kawabeh, Meghan Garvey, Aidan Lapoff, Tara Garvey, Elizabeth Garvey, Adam Garvey, Lauren Garvey, Ian Garvey, and his great-niece, Leah Abrams.
To know Paul was to ask, ‘where in the world is he today?’ Always the free spirit, Paul spent his free time doing all of the things that he loved. Be it traveling to Phish concerts, traveling on cruises with his mother and siblings, or just traveling in general, Paul made the most of every second.
When he wasn’t attending Phish concerts and Yankee games, Paul was hard at work managing a business. Before his sudden passing, he was extremely excited about his future with the business and the upcoming opportunities he had created for himself.
Paul ardently felt the inequities of our current prison system, and advocated for change. With this, we ask that donations in Paul’s memory be to made to The Sentencing Project https://www.sentencingproject.org
To Paul, family was everything. The love that Paul gave to those closest to him was unmatched. In the wake of his passing, Paul leaves behind an entire tribe of loved ones, including his friends, who he considered to be an extension of his family, whose hearts will forever ache for the kind, funny, and compassionate man that he was.
Paul will be waked at Hannemann Funeral Home at 88 S. Broadway, Nyack, NY on Friday, September 6th, 2019 from 4pm-8pm.
