She was predeceased by: her parents, Kathleen Bates and Thomas Porter. She is survived by: her husband Larry Ashton; her children, Thomas Coles (Desiree) of Norwich and Kaitlyn Miller (Carter) of Norwich; her siblings, Karen Slater (Duke) of So, Plymouth, Jackson Porter (Colleen) of Ravena, Kimberly Buyea of So and Jeanni Romanowski (Milton) of No; and her grandchildren, Paisleigh Miller and Carson Coles. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

During COVID, Shelly resigned from Chenango Memorial Hospital so that she could spend time with her grandchildren.
