He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Summers and Luella Summers (McDonnell); his wife Fern Joan Summers (McDonald); his daughter Karen Spearman (Peter); and his siblings, Marion Schaffer, Diane Kelley, Ronald "Peter" Summers and Patrick Summers.

He is survived by: his children, David V. Summers, Colleen-Kelly Bright (Daniel) and Dennis Summers (Lynda); and his grandchildren, Jake, Samantha, Zack Summers and Jackson Bright. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
