He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas L. Sr. Ponesse and Nancy Ponesse (Alfano); his wife Margaret Allen Ponesse; his siblings, Thomasina Tangredi (Frank), Louis Ponesse (Linda), Virginia Martini (Anthony), Genevieve Marotta (William), Thomas L. Ponesse, Jr. (Rose) and Carl Ponesse (Joan); his in-laws, Anthony Formato, Elizabeth, Norman Roberts, John and Linda Allen; and his nephews, Thomas L. Ponesse and Joseph Marotta.

He is survived by: his children, Robert A. Ponesse (Kathy), Michael T. Ponesse (Colleen), Elizabeth Ponesse (Bob Stevens) and Nancy Bowman (Michael); his grandchildren, Dara Ponesse, Malory Ponesse, Robert J. Ponesse (Kelsey), Anthony Ponesse (Kelsey), Kaitlyn Geider (Andrew), Michael A. Ponesse (Hayley Wright), Jaclyn Bowman, Nicole Chrysler, Gregory Chrysler and Ryan Terwilliger; his great grandchildren, Anna Ponesse, Michael V. Ponesse, Caleb Ponesse and Aiden Geider; and his sister Frieda Formato. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
