Pietro A. LaBella Obituary

Pietro Antonio Francesco LaBella who was 93 and a resident of New Rochelle since the 1950's passed away on Thursday July 21st. He is survived by his children Anthony (Nancy), Peter (Patti), Joseph (Meg) and Marianne (Francis). He has 13 grandchildren: Nichole, Donna, Hannah, Jake, Peter, Meghan, Joey, Sam, Tucker, Tessa and Indiana. He also has ten great grandchildren: Lily, Scott, Noah, Sam, Phoebe, Finn, Christopher, Charlotte, Gabe, Jude, Christiana, Santino and Luca. He has many nieces and nephews in Italy who were like his own children. He is predeceased by his wife Johanne and his son Frank. Peter was born on March 12, 1929 in Stefanaconi, Italy to Antonio LaBella and Marianna Griffo. He grew up there with his younger twin sisters Annunziata and Catherina (Tina and Rina). He came to this country to finally stay after meeting his future wife Johanne Kappelmann. They built a life together and he worked in his own landscaping business that he took over from his father and he worked for the City School District of New Rochelle until his retirement. He and Anne traveled to many places but they loved their summers in Italy where they had a summer home by the beach. Their best days were spent there. He always had a massive garden with the best and biggest tomatoes anywhere. He dabbled in building things and homemade winemaking. He loved his cigars and he loved Christmas Eve gatherings at his house. Even in his last days his mind was as sharp as ever and his sense of humor was too. He will be missed by many and so many traditions will live on.
