He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Samter and Emma Baird Samter; his wife Germaine Ribi Samter; his siblings, Eugene Samter, Joan Young and Jill Risley; his son Jeffrey Samter; his daughter-in-law Bonnie LeHew Samter; and his granddaughter Naomi Samter.
He is survived by: his sister Judie Samter; his children, John "Weez" (Karen Bernard Samter) and Stephanie (Stephen Marshall); his grandchildren, Gretchen Samter, Josh "Waffle" Samter (Diana Marcela Becerra), John "Mogley" Samter, Rosie Samter, Jessie Marshall Olney (Antone Olney) and Chelsea Marshall; and his great grandchildren, Adrianna D'Nunzio, Shandra D'Nunzio, Alexander D'Nunzio and Virginia Germaine Olney. He is also survived by the oldest of five siblings with parents.
