He was predeceased by: his parents, Harrison McGinness and Marie McGinness of Moriah; his siblings, Lillian Michiner, Iva Knapp, Harold McGinness, George McGinness, Marshall McGinness and Tony McGinness; and his son-in-law Robert Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Doris (Sprague); his children, Elaine Smith, Anne Marie Smith (Dale), Michael McGinness (Carol), Nancy Uvyn, Patrick McGinness (Mary Hope) and David Joseph McGinness (William Alvin Shannon); his grandchildren, Robert Smith II, Curtis John Smith, Jessica Smith, Jennifer Smith, Hannah Rissler, David McGinness, Elizabeth McGinness, Lindsey Panasci, Jordan McGinness, Michelle Uvyn and Alex Uvyn; and his sister Judy Yurgeau. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in John's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Veterans Administration or the Wounded Warrior Project.
