He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wilbur Benjamin and Ruth Fritchie Benjamin; his wife Viola; his children, Richard Jr. (Lori), Kenneth (Louise) and Wendy (James Willis); his grandchildren, Marlena, Kenneth Jr. (Summer), Stefanie and Kyle (Michele); his great grandchildren, Colten, Elijah and Isaiah; and his siblings, Sandra Callihan, Donald and Robert. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
