He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Metz and Ernestine Metz (Ruttiger); his brother Edgar; his sister-in-law Elfriede Metz; and his granddaughter Kristin Del Valle.
He is survived by: his wife Norma A. Kieffer; his children, Anita Metz-Martin (Mike Martin), Barbara Mushock (Joe), Elisabeth Fournier (Stephen), Richard Metz (Rhonda), Peter Metz (Shawn Johnson) and Erich Metz (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Jonathan Mushock, Christopher (Rachel), Daniel Martin (Meredith), Natalie, Stephen, Kyle Fournier, Summer Goetz (Mike), Andrew (Cheyenne), Nikole, Robert, Kevin Metz, Catherine, Jessica, Erich (Abby) and Jennifer Metz; and his great grandchildren, Erich Metz, Grace, Michael, Jack Goetz and Joseph Morse. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
