With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joseph Gabriel Whelan Jr. (Mineola, New York), who passed away on November 23, 2022 at the age of 77. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his father Dabbins (Joe); his brother-in-law George Karas; and his nephew Georgie Karas. He is survived by: his children, Joseph, Robert and Natalie; his sister Gabrielle Karas; his nieces and nephews, Richard, William and Cecily; and his granddaughters, Coralie, Juliette, Rumika and Juniali. He is also survived by in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Dad's boundless curiosity and drive to collect knowledge and insights extended to sharing – he loved to pass on what he'd unearthed: with friends and family, with his students, via regular contributions to the Record Review, and he was always overjoyed to meet strangers with shared interests.
