He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Haines and Claire Barrett (Schwab); and his son Bruce Haines Barrett. He is survived by: his wife Lyn Barrett (Miller) of Millerton; his children, Heather Biewald (Frank), Thomas Breuler (Deborah), James Breuler (Mia), Christian Kelly (Jennifer), Elizabeth Barrett and Megan Ideker (Cory); and his sister Gail Crane (John). He is also survived by great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the North East/Millerton Library, 75 Main Street, Millerton, NY 12546.
