He was predeceased by: his parents, William Smith and Margaret Smith (Quinn); and his siblings, Mary Ellen DePasquale, Charles Smith, Bredget Smith, Leo Smith, Patrick Smith, Elizabeth Lowe, Kenneth, Angie Schaal and James Jahnke.

He is survived by: his wife Kathryn Smith (Schaal); his children, Stephen Smith (Trisha) and Audra Smith (John Garbutt); his grandsons, Chad Smith (Amanda), Mason, Maverick and Milo Smith; his children, David and Deborah Manna; his siblings, Margaret Acara, Francis Smith (Judy), Dennis Smith (Shirley), William Smith (Kathie), Teresa Carpp (Michael) and Ann Groell; and his parents-in-law, Alda Smith, Peggy Smith, Sharon Smith, James Lowe, David Schaal (Nancy), Renee Jahnke, Stephen Schaal (Candy), Marc Schaal (Jackie), Kris Leonard (Walter) and Kelly Schaal (Mary).
