He was predeceased by: his wife Norma Bracy Downing; his parents, Dana Downing and Lelah Downing; his sons, Scott and Eric Downing; and his brothers, Eugene and Donald Downing.

He is survived by: his sons, Michael Downing and Mark Downing (Barbara); his daughter-in-law Penny Downing; his siblings, Dana Downing (Patricia) and Stanley Downing (Josephine); his grandchildren, Joshua, Eliza (Scott), Amy, Nathan, Jared and Molly Downing; his great grandchildren, Sarah, Aaron, Leah and Oliver; and his girlfriend Rose Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
