He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mothers, Nora Newell (Brett) and Mary T. Newell (Hanlon); his children, Maira Newell, Thomas Newell, Patricia Newell, Teresa Newell and Barbara Newell; his grandchildren, Molly Newell and Sean Newell; and his siblings, Hubert Newell, Martin Newell, Jack Newell, Thomas Newell, Kathleen Newell, Naula Newell, Teresa Burke and Mary Finnegan. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Due to COVID-19 – funeral service will be held privately, with the Rite of Committal to be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

He also volunteered at the Albany Food Bank and Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
