He was predeceased by: his parents, Orrin H. Mathews and Lucille Benson Mathews; his niece Darlene Marie Mathews; and his brother-in-law Dennis Pipher. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Bentley Mathews; his children, Debra Butler (Michael) of Effingham, SC and Robert Mathews (Cynthia) of Columbia, SC; his granddaughters, Kayla and Jessica Butler of Effingham, SC; and his siblings, Louise Pipher of Ripley, NY, Paul Mathews (Sonja) of Mayville, NY and William Mathews (Sheri) of Glendale, AZ. He is also survived by one niece, several nephews and many cousins.
