He was predeceased by: his parents, Marshall Bates and Alberta Kimber Bates; his children, Stanley G. Bates and Brenda Bates Brezenoff; his siblings, Robert "Bobby" Bates and Betty Koval; his daughter-in-law Sally Bates; and his sisters, Sylvia Passerro, Alberta Able and Emmagene Williams.
He is survived by: his children, Michael S. Bates of Mayfield, Warren E. Bates Jr. of Galway Lake, Mark W. Bates of Fort Plain and Lynn Buyce (Walter) of Gloversville; his brother Marshall "Sonny" Bates of Mayfield; and his grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Evelyn Dopp, Francis Oliver, Joyce, Tammy of Charla, J. R., April, Joseph, Angela, Mark, Jr., Rachel, Tabatha, Warren III, Veronica and Jason. He is also survived by 33 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
