He was predeceased by: his parents, Abram G. Herne and Margaret Herne (Lazore); his wife Lillian Chevette; his daughter Retina Star Herne; his siblings, Richard L., Donna Herne, Mary Louise Newfang, Barbara Herne, Linda Merryweather and Anna May Cleary; and his son Charles Cook.
He is survived by: his close friend Sandra Cook; his children, Elizabeth Antone, Lillian Herne, Roger Herne and Gail Jean Wall; his stepdaughters, Beatrice and Katherine; his siblings, Ruth Bell, Dexter "Dusty" and Christopher Herne; and also, Ronald, Mike Cook and Christine Caldwell. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in his memory to the Sons of the American Legion, Hogansburg.
