He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Stern and Eileen Stern (O'Brien); and his siblings, Ken Stern and Eileen Cohane. He is survived by: his wife Rose Duffy; his sons, Sam, Matt (Kim), Mike (Nicole) and Diego (Jenna); his siblings, Chris, John, Richie Stern, Terry Behrens, Kathy Kennedy and Margaret Untener; and his grandchildren, Michael, Thomas, Christiano and Ellia.
