He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Mater and F. Eugene Mater; his wife Kathleen "Kathy" Mater; his brother James Mater; his son-in-law Anthony Cavagnaro; his granddaughter Barbara Ann White; and his nephew Matthew Melich.
He is survived by: his former wife Barbara Mater (Sherman); his children, Jan Milliman (Jason), Neil Mater and Richard Mater; his stepchildren, Dave Young (Julie) and Laura George (Dave); his grandchildren, Calvin Cavagnaro, Stephanie, Michael Mater of Ben, R. J., Nadine Young and Sarah George; his sisters, Mary Melich and Elizabeth Mater; his sister-in-law Nancy Mater; and his nephew Martin Melich.
