He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ernst Riedl and Maria Riedl (Hammer); his pet Skully; his wife Esther; his daughter Mary Barbero (Michael); and his stepchildren, William Hendrick (Pamela), Richard Hendrick (Nancy), Joseph Hendrick (Jane) and Jane Nickerson (Scott). He was also cherished by twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many devoted nieces and nephews.
