He was predeceased by: his siblings-in-law, Phyllis Smithling and John "Jack" Loveland. He is survived by: his children, Linda M. Roy, Jr. (Dennis), Mary J. Giruzzi (Joseph), Neil W. Smithling (Frannie), Alan P. Smithling (Maryanne), Ralph J. Smithling (Jill), Wayne T. Smithling (Angi) and Mark J. Smithling; his siblings, Richard Smithling and Evelyn Loveland; and his close friend Virginia Lyndaker. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren.
