He was predeceased by: his sister-in-law Maggie Mathis; his close friend David Axtell; and his parents, Donald Mathis and Mary Hoffman Mathis. He is survived by: his wife Jan; his daughter Liz Newvine (Scott); his grandchildren, Payton and Avery of Port Leyden; his daughter Tiffany Peery (Brandon); his grandchildren, Loren and Lucia of Valley City; his son Hunter Mathis; his siblings, Donna Mathis of Old Forge and Mike Mathis (Kathy) of Rochester; and also, Peter Mathis (Sherry) of Lyons Falls and David Mathis of Temperanceville, VA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
