He was predeceased by: his sons-in-law, Gary Barlow Jr. and Joseph Cobb; his grandson Gavin Jerome; his brother Charles O'Brien; his siblings-in-law, Jean O'Brien, Patrick Thisse, Thomas Dunn and Sherri Dunn; his nephew Peter Dubach; his great-nephew Kyle O'Brien; and his parents, Harold O'Brien and Susanna McCarthy O'Brien.
He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, Christine Bush (Mike) of Lowville, Catherine O'Brien of Lowville, Cara Jerome (Christopher), Colleen O'Brien of Lowville, Jeffrey O'Brien of Chases Lake and Matthew O'Brien (Lacey Kellogg) of Lowville; and his siblings, Harold O'Brien of Lowville and Mary Dubach (Tom) of Martinsburg. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
