He was predeceased by: his parents, Rafael and Catalina; his brother Freddie; and his cousin José Rafael. He is survived by: his wife Sheila Zayas; his children, Rafael Zayas (Katy) of Morris Plains, NJ, Pearl Zayas of Lake Huntington, NY and Lori Podell (Joe Podell) of Garnerville, NY; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Rafi, Isaac and Luna; and his siblings, Judith Zayas, Carlos Zayas and Eduardo DeSoto.
