He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Van Sleet Buff; his parents, Dr. Joseph A. Buff and Frances Buff (Storms); his brothers, Frank and Jerome; and his sisters-in-law, Joyce and Rosemary.

He is survived by: his children, Kathy Buff, Joseph D. Buff (Kathleen), Dr. Christopher Buff (Cheryl) and Marlene Buff; his siblings, Louis Buff (Kathleen), Bernard Buff (Roberta), Mary Mantica (Paul), Martin Buff (Suzanne), Robert Buff (Noreen), Michael Buff, Susan Ciejka (William), Barbara Burns and Paul Buff; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kelly, Sarah Libertucci (Mark), Rachel (Charlie) and Daniel (Nicole); his great grandchildren, Lincoln and Cecelia Libertucci; his sister-in-law Beverly Buff; and his close friend Linda Green. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
