He was predeceased by: his parents, Faith Murphy and James Murphy; his wife Claire Holmes Murphy; his daughter Kim Murphy; and his brother Peter Murphy.

He is survived by: his children, Judy Murphy and Brian Murphy (Cindy); and his granddaughter Nairika Murphy (Terry Mullen). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
