He was predeceased by: his parents, Egon Gerdsmeier and Florence Gerdsmeier (Choate); and his siblings, Cathy, Steven and Russell.

He is survived by: his former wife Marguerite Bleda; his sons, Kirk and William; and his granddaughter Tina.
