He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Matthews and Charlotte Matthews (Hilbert); and his siblings, Samuel Matthews and Elayne Weber. He is survived by: his wife Laura M. Matthews (Ackley); his children, Robert (Karin Matthews) and Kelly (David Cunningham); his grandchildren, Nadia H. Matthews and Bobby A. Matthews of Willow Spring, NC.; his siblings, Karyl Lee Sullivan of Concord, NC and Wayne Matthews of Johnson City, NY; and his close friend Steve St. Clair.
