He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jack" Hinman and Henrietta "Henny" Hinman (Vogt); and his brother Ron Hinman. He is survived by: his wife Mary "Joan" Hinman; his children, Lance Hinman (Michele), Kathy St (Doug), Jeff Hinman (Yvette), Julie Hinman (John Iannone) and Michael Hinman (Candice); his grandchildren, Nick Hinman (Melissa), Robert St (Maisie), Jennifer Campbell (Gavin), David Hinman, Lisa Hinman, Timothy St (Brittany), Alex Hinman and Michael St (Anne); and his siblings, Gary, Randy (Mary Lou) and Gail.
He was the president of the Syracuse Pioneer Horseshoe Club; the club played at the NY State Fairgrounds for more than 25 years. In 2008, the club was moved to Maxwell Park until the club dispersed due to the Covid epidemic. Lance was inducted into the 2013 Hall of Fame by the National Horseshoe Pitching Association.
