He was predeceased by: his father Herbert; his wife Dorothy Terwilliger DeWitt; and his siblings, Robert DeWitt, Herbert DeWitt Jr. and Irene Kortright.
He is survived by: his children, Patricia DeWitt of Kerhonkson and John E. DeWitt Jr. of Slingerlands. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
