He is survived by: his children, Richard Carey (Sandy) of Montross, Virginia, Marsha Wyant of Falconer and Pat Carey of Jamestown; his grandchildren, Amanda Carey, Caitlin Carey, Shannon Edmonds and Jack Wyant; his great grandchildren, Caleb Tarmon, Layla Tarmon, Connor Campbell, Carson Campbell and Analie Kate Wenger; and his brother Bernard J. Carey Jr..
