He was predeceased by: his parents, James R., Sr. and Ardell M. Vassar (Gumlaw); his daughter Carie Ann Vassar; his brother James E. Vassar, Jr. (Dorothy Thompson); his sister-in-law Carol Vassar; his parents-in-law, Mary Irene Baker and Carleton Baker; and his stepmother-in-law Chong Baker.
He is survived by: his wife Dawn Marie Baker; his son Richard Vassar, II of Elizabethtown; and his siblings, Pauline "Blondie" (Fred Colegrove, Jr.) of Keeseville, Clifford "Kipper" Vassar of Keeseville, Jerry Vassar of Elizabethtown and George Vassar (Patricia) of Phoenix.
