He was predeceased by: his parents, Orlando Insonia and Margaret Elizabeth Ackernecht Insonia; and his brother Bruce Insonia. He is survived by: his wife Kathryn M. Shepard Insonia; his children, Christopher Insonia of Gloversville, Joseph Insonia, Sr. (Lisa) of Mayfield and Jennifer Insonia of Gloversville; his siblings, Mark Insonia (Marianne), Carol Akey of Gloversville, Yolanda Case of Mayfield, Marlene Sawyer of Gloversville, Joanne DeVito of Saratoga Springs, Tina Travis (Charles) of Gloversville and Orlinda Drake of Schenectady; his grandchildren, Raquel (Matthew), Joseph and Tyler; and his great grandchildren, Anthony, Harper and Lincoln. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
